David Nakayama

David Nakayama was born in Honolulu in 1978 and has been drawing since he was three. He studied illustration at Washington University in St. Louis, then went to the Joe Kubert School under Adam and Andy Kubert.

His first published story ran in Star Wars Tales #17 in 2003. In 2004 he won Wizard's Top Cow talent contest, interned under Marc Silvestri and drew the graphic novel Proximity Effect, followed by Witchblade and City of Heroes.

He spent roughly 12 years in the game industry, where he picked up the digital painting approach that defines his covers today. Back in comics, he's become a go-to cover artist for Marvel's Spider-Verse books and has painted covers for DC and Dynamite, including Gargoyles.
